Cristian Amigo is an award-winning musician, composer, producer, and writer; an artist who explores sonic and social spaces between Western art music, popular music (jazz/blues, ambient, dub, soul, Latin, funk, afropop), and technology. Known as an acoustic and electric guitarist with an improvising bent, Amigo creates/performs /produces recordings, chamber and orchestral music, operas, theatre and film music, fierce riffs, soundscapes, and songs.
Amigo’s work has been supported by many foundations and public agencies including the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, Meet the Composer, New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), and the Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. Amigo has a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from UCLA and has studied theory, composition, and performance with masters from various world music traditions. His recordings with his “new music jam band” Kingdom of Jones are available on innova Recordings. Amigo is currently partial to the Fender telecaster, Messiaen, and tube amps.
